Tomorrow, January 23rd, is National Pie Day.
I believe that calls for a celebration! I love pie and so did a Colorado teacher who declared his birthday to be National Pie Day back in the 70s.
The first pies ever made were by the Greeks and Romans. Only they filled their pastry shells with an assortment of meats or seafood. When the Pilgrims came to the New World in the late 1600s they arrived with recipes for beef, lamb, duck or pigeon pie. It wasn’t until the late 1800s that the very first sweet pies began to be created.
So let’s celebrate National Pie Day with a great collection of pie recipes. Why not find a recipe and bake a PIE for dessert tomorrow? I’m sure your family will be very happy to celebrate this fun food holiday.
