Valentine’s Day Gifts for Foodies: Rachael Ray 3 Piece Knife Set

I’ve recently become addicted to Woot…if you haven’t heard of Woot, it’s similar to Groupon, but there are specific groups of products that are featured for one day only, and usually at hugely discounted prices.  Recently, Woot featured [amazon_link id=”B001NABGL8″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Rachael Ray’s Basics 3 Piece Starter Knife Set[/amazon_link] for half off of the regular price, so I had to snatch them up.    Even at the regular price, these knives are a great value at anywhere from $18-$25.

What I like best about these knives are the sturdy, easy to grip handles.  The handles are heavy, but not too heavy and are contoured for a comfortable grip when using them.  They have a rubber handle so they are very slip resistant.  The handles are also orange, which is Rachael Ray’s signature color, so they’re bright and colorful.

Of course, the most important feature of any knife is it’s cutting power.  These knives have a stainless steel blade, and a nice sharp cut.  They cut precisely and I’ve used them many times since I purchased them and haven’t had to sharpen them yet.  The only downside to the cutting ability for these knives is that they seem to have a little bit of a drag when I run them across cutting boards when I’m slicing or chopping.  They chop very well, but it takes a little longer because they don’t slide as fast as some of my other knives.  This may be due to the thicker stainless steel blade or just the edge design of the knife.

My only complaint about these knives are the carrying case; the knives come in a plastic carrying case with a “child proof” lock, but the case is SO hard to open that it’s pretty much adult proof as well.  I kept the knives in the case for a few days until I grew tired of having to force it open every time I wanted to use the knives, so I threw the case away.

Overall, these are good knives for the price, and I would definitely recommend them if you’re looking for good sharp knives and don’t want to spend a lot of money.  Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and this would be a great gift for that special foodie in your life!
