“Mom, I want to learn how to make cookies!” Making cookies was one of the first things I learned to bake as a child. I have fond memories of flipping through my favorite cookie cookbook looking for the next batch we would make. Baking cookies is such a fun way for generations to spend a day together making memories in the kitchen. Getting started is simple. You just need a few cookie essentials and you are ready to go! To help you out, I’ve created this free printable you can laminate and let your kids use to get ready for baking!

First things first, you need to have your pantry stocked. Most cookie recipes call for some simple pantry items you should have on hand such as:
- Baking Soda
- Baking Powder
Having these items on hand will surely get you started on any recipe and depending on what you are making you may need additional items such as molasses, brown sugar, icing, add-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, etc…
Next I like to make sure I have my favorite cooking tools ready and available:
- Mixing Bowls
- Mixing Spoon or Stand Mixer
- Wax Paper
- Rolling Pin
- Cutting Board Mat
- Measuring Cups (I use a large Pyrex for wet ingredients and scoops for dry)
- Measuring Spoons
- Cookie Scoop
- Cookie Cutter Assortment
- Frosting Decorating Kit
Of course you will need some fun cookie cutters too!
Now you have the essentials, how about some recipes to get you started!
