If you have peppers in your garden, they have probably started coming in by now, and if you are like me, sometimes we have too many to eat. So, I’m going to show you how you can roast peppers at home. Roasted peppers are delicious in all types of dishes and sauces, and you can buy them in the store, but it is really simple to roast your own, and you can roast whatever you have in the garden – regular roasted red or poblanos like these make great choices. First, heat your grill to medium. Then, brush your peppers lightly with olive oil.
Set them on the grill and let them roast, turning them every few minutes so they get done equally on all sides. This will probably take 10 to 15 minutes depending on the peppers and exact temperature of your grill.
As you can see the peppers get charred and the skin starts to come loose when they are about done. The should also be quite soft.
When done, place the peppers in a bowl and cover it with plastic wrap and let them cool. This helps the skins loosen even more.
Here is how they look after removing the plastic wrap.
Finally, peel away the loose skin. I use a fork for this, but you could use your hands. You might want to wear gloves though as poblanos are slightly hot and can irritate your skin.
