Here are a few easy recipes to make your own homemade spices.

Have you ever gone to grab a packet or bottle of seasoning to use in a recipe

and bam…you’re all out?

I have!  I was making tacos for dinner one night and realized I was all

out of taco seasoning packets.

Here are a few homemade versions of popular spices you would normally

purchase at the grocery store…and they’ll help you save money too!

Taco Seasoning

  • 1 Tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 Tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 Tablespoon crush red pepper.
Combine ingredients and store in an air-tight container.  Add one to two tablespoons and 1/4 cup water to browned ground beef.

Homemade Ranch Dressing

  • 1 TBS. Dried Dill Weed
  • 1 TBS. Dried Parsley
  • 1 TBS. Garlic Powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Onion Powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar

Combine ingredients and store in an air-tight container.  Then add one tablespoon of the dry mix to 1 cup sour cream and enough buttermilk to get the dressing to the consistency you like.  Mix and serve immediately over tossed salad.

Homemade Season Salt

  • 1/4 cup kosher salt
  • 4 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper

Combine ingredients and store in an air-tight container.  Use to season chicken, steak or vegetables before grilling.

Cinnamon Sugar

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

Combine ingredients and store in an air-tight container for up to six months.
