Hazelnut Syrup

Hazelnut Syrup

Hazelnut syrup has a rich and nutty flavour that adds sweetness to your coffee.  Not all of us have a Starbucks or can even afford  to buy specialty coffees all the time, so we have to improvise.  It is easy to make your own syrup to add to your coffees or even to make your specialty coffee.

To make any kind of simple syrup all you need it sugar, water and flavouring.  Once you make the hazelnut syrup you can made a Hazelnut Macchiato, either iced or hot.

Hazelnut Macchiato

3/4 cup strong coffee

2-3 tsp Hazelnut Syrup (recipe below)

Ice cubes

1/4 cup Almond Milk (frothed)

sweetener (optional)

Chocolate syrup (I used Dove Chocolate Discoveries – Chocolate Martini Mix)

Add 4-5 ice cubes to a cup with 2-3 tsp Hazelnut Syrup.  I use my Starbucks Verismo Coffee and Espresso Maker and an Espresso Pod.  Place Espresso Pod in machine and made a regular coffee (not espresso).  Froth 1/4 cup of Almond Milk and pour slowly over iced coffee.   Drizzle chocolate over frothed milk.  Enjoy!

This could also be made hot… just don’t add ice.  If you like a sweeter coffee, add sweetener to taste before you top with almond milk.  Any milk can be used with this recipe.
