Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to visit the Georgia Wine Country Festival in Dahlonega, Georgia. The dates for the festival are every weekend in June, so if you are going to be in the north Georgia area, you still have time to make it this year. The Georgia Wine Country Festival is hosted by Three Sister’s Vineyards and features wineries from around the state, local music, and barbecue. Getting into the festival is free, but unlimited tastings along with a stemless souvenir wine glass are $25. Not every winery is there everyday, so you might want to call ahead if you are looking for one in particular. Last Sunday, we were able to taste wines from Mercier Orchards, Georgia Winery, The Cottage Vineyards and Winery, and, of course, Three Sister’s Vineyards. We sampled wonderful barbecue from Rib Country BBQ all while listening to music from Moose and Squirrel. It was really a delightful day and I highly recommended.
We tasted many delicious wines while at the festival. As we drink them, I will review them either here or on my blog From Calculus to Cupcakes.
Lastly, I will say that I have visited Three Sister’s Vineyards on several occasions, and it is a wonderful place to visit and taste wines anytime, not just during the wine festival. In the past, Georgia wines have not had the best reputation, but all of them have improved greatly, and I think that you will find the wines from Three Sister’s Vineyards as well as several other wineries in the area to be excellent.
Huge portions of delicious barbecue from Rib Country BBQ.
We will try and visit this June 2014.
