Gardening by the Book
How often do gardening questions come up at your house? Where do you go to get advice? I try to answer as many questions myself as I can that come my way. I will refer followers to experts if the question is beyond my scope.
Many gardeners turn to the internet to get their questions answered. Even if you choose to use the internet, where do you start?
Most advice you will find is general solutions for common problems. That’s great, but what if need more specific advice for your region?
Start with your County Cooperative Extension office for questions on gardening for your immediate area. These offices are part of their State Universities so they can offer solutions to most problems over the phone. This is where I received most of my training through the Master Gardener Program.
I also took courses at local Botanical Gardens and Horticultural Societies and Institutes.
But you know where I turn when I need quick answers? I go to my home library.
I admit I am a book nerd and own many gardening books. I even give them for gifts. Instead of me recommending a specific book, let me suggest a website where no matter where you live, you will find the perfect book to buy or gift.

Cindy's Recipes and Writings

As a professional cook, I love creating exciting new recipes on the job as well as at home. Assisting in teaching low-income families how to buy, store and prepare healthy food through Penn State’s alliance with Pennsylvania’s Supercupboard Program was very rewarding. During my 11 years with the Master Gardener program, I taught horticultural therapy to assisted living patients using healthful, fr
esh grown food as a focal point. . My hands-on programs and instruction helped hundreds of children and adults learn about where their food comes from and how important fresh food is for your body.
Currently I’m a cook at a college in Pennsylvania. We prepare everything we can from scratch, including our potato chips that tout the seasoning of the day!
Of course I write about food; it's in my blood!
