Fudgy Cherry Dr. Pepper Brownies to Celebrate Summer

Summer is here and that means fruity summer flavor of cherry to me. Every year, summer starts officially right about the time the cherries are harvested from the orchard next to my house and that in turn means it’s baking time for me and my girls. Growing up, I always spent my summers baking desserts and now that my girls are a bit older, it’s something we do together.

To kick off summer and celebrate the cherries, we decided to whip up some super easy Fudgy Cherry Dr. Pepper Brownies. YUM! The recipe is actually just two ingredients, using a boxed brownie mix and Cherry Dr. Pepper (one of two awesome special edition flavors found in select Albertsons and Safeway stores).

Cherry Dr. Pepper

I had seen a recipe floating around on Pinterest for cakes made with soda so I decided to try it out with brownie mix instead. The result is a dense moist brownie with a fantastic chocolate cherry flavor. So delicious and so easy that even the youngest of kids can help in the kitchen!

1 Brownie Box Mix

1 12 oz. Can Cherry Dr. Pepper

Pour soda into brownie mix in a bowl. Stir.

Bake as directed on box mix. Serve!

Seriously… It’s that easy!

Serve it up with a glass of the second fun limited edition flavor of Dr. Pepper;

Dr. Pepper Vanilla Float for a sweet summer treat!

I can’t tell you how much baking with my kids brings back sweet memories of my own summers as a child. I just hope they enjoy it as much as I do and someday spend long summer days baking with their children as well. I don’t think there is a better way to really spend quality time with your family than in the kitchen!

Enjoy!
