Eating for Your Health: Strawberries

Strawberry Smoothie

Strawberries in a healthy smoothie

Strawberries are full of vitamin C, fiber, manganese, and potassium.  They are good for your heart, increase good cholesterol, and protect you against cancer.  And, they are so pretty and taste so good.  Even here in Georgia when it is months until strawberry season, I was able to make this pretty and yummy smoothie with frozen strawberries.  In fact, this recipe needs frozen strawberries to produce its slushy texture.

This was one of my recent detox meals.  I was not eating dairy, so I made it with soy milk.   Feel free to use your favorite milk – dairy or not.  I chose soy because it has more protein than most milk alternatives.  I also added in sunflower seeds, which give the smoothie more texture.  I really like the added texture, and you could easily substitute nuts, if you don’t like sunflower seeds.
