We crave fats and sweets even though we know a diet rich in these isn’t good for us. So why not replace some of that sugary sweet craving with a naturally sweet fruit like blueberries?
Blueberries are a Super Food, high in antioxidants. In fact, these little blue drops are rated as the highest of any fruit in antioxidants. Blueberries are also high in fiber and vitamin C with a fair amount of Vitamin B-6, iron and Vitamin A.
Go one step further and try wild blueberries! These tiny gems pack more berries per cup than the cultivated variety. More berries equals more nutrient dense skin. These berries are just as sweet and juicy as their popular cousins.
It is a good idea to add a blueberry or two to your salads, cereal, yogurt or pancakes. Blueberries in sauces and baked goods kicks the nutrition up a notch. Anytime you can improve on a Family Favorite recipe to make it healthier it is a win for your whole family.

Cindy's Recipes and Writings

As a professional cook, I love creating exciting new recipes on the job as well as at home. Assisting in teaching low-income families how to buy, store and prepare healthy food through Penn State’s alliance with Pennsylvania’s Supercupboard Program was very rewarding. During my 11 years with the Master Gardener program, I taught horticultural therapy to assisted living patients using healthful, fr
esh grown food as a focal point. . My hands-on programs and instruction helped hundreds of children and adults learn about where their food comes from and how important fresh food is for your body.
Currently I’m a cook at a college in Pennsylvania. We prepare everything we can from scratch, including our potato chips that tout the seasoning of the day!
Of course I write about food; it's in my blood!
