The BIG 40! Yep, my eh-hmm, OLDER sister celebrated her 40th birthday this last weekend by having a big birthday bash campout. Friends, family and co-workers all showed up at Crow Butte Park in Washington State along the Columbia River Gorge prepared for a weekend of fun. Luckily, they own a giant 5th wheel so I am able to tag along without having to sleep in a tent, yay!
Many of the guests have campers or trailers so when it comes to food at the campout, it’s gourmet camp cookin’! No hot dogs over the fire for this crowd!
To get ready, we first stopped into our favorite supermarket, Safeway, to get all the goods we would need to Par-te!
Since, dinners were pretty much covered by the other campers, I focused on breakfast (Gevalia Coffee because it ROCKS!), Spirits, Lunch Snacks & Kids Treats. Well as it turns out, nobody waited until breakfast to break into the Gevalia.. The Keurig one cup coffee brewer was set up outside and just happen to be ready to roll when I arrived, complete with the optional fixings of Baileys and Whipped Cream!
Well, the Gevalia was a huge hit. They have been brewing coffee in Gavle, Sweden since 1853. Roasting in cast-iron to produce a rich and smooth flavor. Taking the time to select the beans and then grinding them extra fine makes this coffee number one in my book. My sister had never tried the Gevalia coffee before and guess what… she’s switching. Yep, it’s THAT good!
So that was just the first appearance of the Gevalia over the next 2 days. We drank it again with our dessert – Strawberry Dump Cake – YUM, and then again in the morning with our huge breakfast spread of bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits and all the leftovers from the night before!
Gevalia comes in many different flavors and roasts. Most are available at Safeway stores. It’s the perfect choice for parties since it’s always rich and smooth, never bitter.
What else besides the coffee did I find at Safeway that everyone loved? Lunch from the deli… awesome deal on fried chicken and potato salad. Fresh fruits and veggies, Safeway Select Brand Sparkling Pink Lemonade to go with the Pomegranate Sorbet Vodka that was on sale for 30% off… holla! And the kids picked up all the fixin’s for Smores. Everyone was happy at a super affordable price. Safeway is THE place to shop for parties because of the variety, fresh foods (the bakery and deli are the bomb) and it’s so convenient, easy to get around in, and best of all… affordable!

When we lived in Spokane in the early 80’s, we had friends who had a cabin on the Columbia River…brings back a ton of memories to see your photos. Looks like ya had tons of fun. How lovely to celebrate another year of the gift of life.
It was a blast! There are so many great places to camp along the Columbia River, it truly is a beautiful gift from Mother Nature 🙂
